A guide to walking at Goodwood
"Goodwood has been home to my family for over three hundred years and each generation has influenced the shape and character of the land.
We are fortunate to have over 11,000 acres to explore and I have chosen two walks that reveal some of the most beautiful park and woodland across the Estate."

Walk 2: Blue Route
Follow the blue walking route for beautiful views of the Park Golf Course. Designed by renowned golf architect and player, Donald Steel, the course winds past some of England's finest three-hundred-year-old Cedar trees. The Cedar trees can be found as part of The Great Sussex Way's Tree Trail.
You will also pass the cricket ground, where matches have been played in front of Goodwood House since 1702.

Panoramic racecourse views
Walk 3: The Trundle
The sharp green swell of the Downs that rises to the west of Goodwood Racecourse is called St Roche’s Hill, named after a medieval French saint, but everyone knows it as the Trundle.
It's a favourite with racing enthusiasts and walkers alike, thanks to its fascinating history and commanding views.
My favourite place is the Trundle, a Bronze Age ring and ditch with a 360-degree view. I go there for perspective. You’re standing on 4,000 years of history, surrounded by orchids and skylarks.
Where wilderness flourishes
Walk 4: Levin Down
One of Goodwood’s prized landscapes is Levin Down, a site of Special Scientific Interest and the eponym of one of our delicious cheeses.
Occupying a hilltop of chalky grassland beyond Goodwood Racecourse, this exposed site has not once seen a plough or crop and is kept under control by hardy sheep and Exmoor ponies.

Walking from Chichester
Walk 5: The Centurion Way
The Centurion Way walk runs parallel to Goodwood, from central Chichester to West Dean.
The 9km (5.5 mile) route is suitable for both walking and cycling and you can take a detour at Goodwood along the way. Once the Chichester to Midhurst railway line, it's now a popular walk for locals and visitors alike.
A well-deserved treat
Start or, perhaps, finish your walk with lunch or dinner at our sustainable restaurant, Farmer, Butcher, Chef. Indulge in a choice of delicious dishes, including Butcher's Boards and traditional Sunday lunches.
You'll travel farther than your food as the menu is inspired by homegrown, organic produce sourced just yards away at Goodwood Home Farm.

The Estate's landscape is one of delightful contrasts – from the downland forests and chalk meadows to the historic medieval parkland, Goodwood's cultural and ecological legacy is unrivalled, and it is a pleasure to be a part of it.
I think that’s one of the great things about coming to Goodwood – getting so close to nature. Seeing a huge expanse of sky and literally filling your lungs with fresh air. Simple things that make people think differently about their environment.
