Duncan Pittaway is not a man of fear. His choice of cars is, at times, eclectic, but they all seem to have one thing in common: it takes some real bravery to drive them.

At this year’s 79th Goodwood Members’ Meeting presented by Audrain Motorsport he will be racing his Frazer Nash TT Replica in the A.F.P. Fane Trophy and his Bugatti Type 35 in the Varzi Trophy. Both cars that require some serious bravery to drive.
But he is perhaps best known for racing the frankly bonkers Fiat S76 “Beast of Turin” in the S.F. Edge Trophy at the Members’ Meetings. While the S.F. Edge cars are taking a well-earned break this year, there’s no reason not to look back and remember the Beast’s incredible, flame-spitting work at previous events.
Last year during qualifying it was quite wet, but that didn’t put Duncan off, in fact you could probably suggest that the flames from the S76’s incredible open-headed 28-litre engine probably helped to dry the track as he went.
If anything, Duncan’s bravery to venture out for qualifying was a benevolent act to help provide a dry line to his fellow racers. What a hero.
The 79th Members’ Meeting will be shown live on GRR from 10:00am on Saturday for GRRC members and fellows.
