When it comes to Mercedes racing cars, let alone touring cars, the 190E DTM car is one of the most famous of them all. But the fame of some brings with it the overlooking of others and indeed, the ITC C-Class that followed the 190E, is barely known.
But it should be, given it has a screaming V6 and is effectively the Mercedes equivalent of the incredible Alfa Romeo 155 DTM. The sound of it absolutely storming around Spa sounds like a cross between the entire grid of a World Superbike race coming at you all at once, and a biblical swarm of murder hornets doing much the same. It’s a throbbing scream that’s difficult to describe.
The car has pace around Spa too, with the stability of that saloon footprint pairing perfectly with the widened stance and honed aero. The car is solid as a rock as it makes its way around the spectacular swooping Ardennes circuit. What a wonderful machine.
