The ten-lapper was lead off the line by Richard Wilson and Fred Wakeman. The Maserati of Adrian Sucari took a bizarre turn on the way down to the hairpin which caused a yellow flag. Wilson and Wakeman traded blows and places with a particularly daring lunge by Wakeman round the outside through Massenet. Unfortunately for Wilson, Wakeman would cut him fine on the way through Sainte Devote, tipping him into a slide that cost him valuable time, only narrowly avoiding a dive into the barrier. Worse was to come for Wilson, though, as he was turned around by Max Smith-Hilliard in the Lotus Mk10. The Lotus then went on to challenge and pass Wakeman, who spun on the way down to the tunnel. Smith-Hilliard, after a scrappy race, ended up taking victory.
