Historic F1 around Monaco at its most beautiful | GRR
It doesn’t matter where you are, Goodwood, Monaco, Le Mans, Spa, or anywhere else, three or four days of historic motorsport disappears out from under you in a flash. Happily, at the end of the final day – and in the case of Monaco for us, on the long journey home – we take stock of all we’ve seen, all the stories we’ve told and all the content we’ve captured.
It always strikes you, just how much there is. And seeing as Monaco is one of the most abstract, picturesque environments in all of motorsport, we thought this a good one to do a ‘best shots’ piece for. That is, the best photographs our man Peter Summers captured all weekend, as curated and collated by him and the rest of the team. So this is that.
There’s a bit of everything, from the pre-war smokers to the DFV-powered, ground-effect aero F1 cars and everything in between. We also got to trekking our way all over the circuit, to its furthest urban reaches. For reference, the media centre where we were based had a view out over Rascasse, so Mirabeau, the Grand Hotel Hairpin and Portier were quite the distance to get to, very uphill and in some cases, and involved traversing some very enigmatic urban framework, from spiral staircases to secret doors.
So, when perusing this gallery, appreciate the viewpoints, appreciate the cars, but also appreciate just what it takes to conquer Monaco, the maze-like principality hanging off the bottom of Europe, looking out across the Cote d’Azur.
