Ok, so it was the world’s most dangerous sport in 1955, as that’s when this Pathe video was filmed. But it is, even today, quite frankly mad. If you’re thinking it looks an awful lot like something they might do on Top Gear or a Grand Tour special, then that’s because you’re very close to correct.
Video: This was the “world’s most dangerous sport”
Yes, SV. Pan involves one participant riding a motorcycle, on snow, while another skis behind them on tow. Already we’re not sure which person is doing the more impressive thing, the skier holding on while not falling over or the rider… who doesn’t appear to have studded tyres.
But, it gets better, because there’s an even faster version, with teh skiers now behind cars, mostly Porsches for some unfathomable reason, and an unidentified closed-wheel single seater that we can’t identify. There’s even a crash. And, as the traditional Pathe voiceover says, there have been speeds of up to 100mph recorded in this sport.
Are we going to be trying this any time soon? No.
