There are some properly cool one-make series out there. The BMW M1 Procar Championship and Jaguar Intercontinental Challenge are sainted among enthusiasts but some do go very much under-appreciated. Today, we’re putting the spotlight on the Lamborghini GTR Supertrophy, a series for a grid full of howling V12-engined Diablo GTRs which as you’d expect, generates an almighty magnificent racket.

The Diablo of course wasn’t the most sophisticated of cars and while the GTR added a bit of downforce, camber and platform stiffness, 590PS (434kW) from a 6.0-litre V12 still made for an exciting/terrifying race experience. Especially when it’s a grid of identical machinery battling it out. This clip is from Valencia, the final round of the 2001 running, featuring none other than motorbike racing legend Troy Corser, who made a real impression as a factory driver in the series. The cars prove to be tricky, with several offs, spins, slides and lock-ups.
Mostly though, this is just spectacular to watch and more importantly, listen to. The sound of a V12 running in anger during an actual race is something we all crave. We look forward to 2025 and the Valkyrie’s journey in IMSA and the WEC.
